Nathan Harman has a goal of reaching the highest ranks of the Boy Scouts of America, and he asked the City of Fort Morgan to help him get there.

The Fort Morgan High School senior presented his proposal for an Eagle Scout project to the council on Tuesday night, and it was accepted unanimously.

Becoming an Eagle Scout involves far more than completing just one big project, but it is important in reaching the goal, according to the National Eagle Scout Association. A candidates for Eagle Scout must show he can develop, serve as a leader and complete a service project for his community, school or religious institution.

Harman’s idea for such a project, which stemmed from a Facebook post he saw, was to build houses for the many bats that live in Fort Morgan, both year-round and seasonally.

During his presentation to the council, Harman pointed out that bats are “important,” “threatened” and “very misunderstood” creatures.
