OBC to study urban bats in Pontiac

Downtown Pontiac is about to get a little batty.

The Organization for Bat Conservation, currently based out of the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, has announced plans to move its headquarters to 75 West Huron St. downtown in order to study the urban bat population of Pontiac. The nonprofit works to engage others and spread awareness about the current state of the bat population as well as conduct research.

The organization is celebrating 20 years in existence as of April 1.

Phillip Garofalo, communications manager for the nonprofit, said they are excited about the move and to become a part of the urban renewal of downtown Pontiac. The reason behind the move, however, is a little less happy news.
