The third annual Keep Indian River Beautiful Environmental Awards, held at the Oak Harbor Country Club on Feb. 24, was filled with uplifting highlights of the good deeds done by Keep Indian River Beautiful, its volunteers and strategic partners.
To show appreciation for the generosity of its donors, the board of KIRB recognized the following companies and individuals for going above and beyond in 2016:
Partner of the Year Award, Lowe’s
Lowe’s Heroes were honored for their volunteer efforts and support of the Lowe’s Community Improvement Grant for the Captain Forster Hammock Preserve Restoration Project. This grant facilitated a partnership with the county’s Parks Department and its Coastal Engineering Division to plant more than 300 native plants, which will benefit the dune habitat and wildlife. Handmade bat houses and bee houses were also installed to encourage native animals to thrive.
